Ok basically it isn't enough to just set the default browser in the
windows manager. You also have to set it individually in certain
applications which will spawn a broswer when a link is clicked upon. For
example if you are running Gnome applications under KDE they often times
won't be able to grab the default browser setting from kde. Certain apps
simply ignore the windows manager and hit the browser app directly
themselves (e.g. Thunderbird). These applications will sometimes have a
default browser or app association option themselves. Go to
edit/preferences/general or tools/options/general and click on the check
for default browser button. After this please let us know which apps are
launching different browsers and we may be able to help you reset each
individually.
Now as regards setting it in KDE. Go to components/file
association/text/html. Click add under app pref order and add in
"firefox %U". I've also seen it suggested you use the line
"mozilla-firefox -remote 'openURL(%u,new-tab)'" but play with it a bit
yourself and decide which way you want to go.
