[ILUG] Debian CUPS printing problem

[ILUG] Debian CUPS printing problem

Aidan Delaney adelaney at cs.may.ie
Sat Feb 26 01:43:01 GMT 2005

Hey all,
I've a Cups printer that works perfectly with Gnome apps. The printer
was configured through gnome-cups-manager and has the correct PPD.
However it produces garbage if I print via lpr or cupsdoprint even
though the cupsys-bsd package is installed.
Considering I have this problem on two machines it must be a
configuration problem or I must not have a certain package installed.
Could someone nudge me in the direction of a solution? This printer was
working (via lpr on one laptop) before I "upgraded" it from Debian to
Ubuntu (and subsequently back to Debian - why else would I be posting at
1:30 on a Friday).
