Hi,
I am replacing some of our NAS systems with homebuilt SATA RAID boxes,
and I would like to implement some sort of automatic fail over
with/without load sharing/balancing.
My current research points towards using DRBD to export 2 Network Block
devices (serving NFS and SMB) in Primary and Standby mode with Heartbeat
running between servers (which will be located between in different
server rooms and joined via Gb Ethernet.)
LVM will run on top of the NBD and send snapshots to a third backup system.
GFS/GNBD over Gb Ethernet also looks like an option (maybe more
integrated with our distribution), although Redhat don't have their
cluster suite available for RHAS4 yet.
Has anyone used/tried to use either technology, or even software raided
NBD in a live environment? If so, then I would love to hear your
experiences. Especially for busy HA systems (we are replacing a couple
of Netapp f740's)
John
