[ILUG] NBD's, lihux-HA, GFS/GNBD vs. DRBD/heartbeat

[ILUG] NBD's, lihux-HA, GFS/GNBD vs. DRBD/heartbeat

It is nice also that NBD is a mature part of the kernel (first
incorporated back in 2.1), from my research DRBD is really only a bunch
of scripts (and some module additions) around NBD - to make fail over
with other HA stuff like Heartbeat easier. DRBD does Raid 1 with no load
sharing (only one system/device is mounted/exported at a time) -

I am interested in GFS because of the load sharing. The system need to
be fairly responsive.

The hardware is

3 system's (1 for backups, 2 live)
each system has
Tyan Opteron SMP Mobo with PCI-X
2 Opteron 240's
8*GB's ECC DDR
8*400GB Hitachi SATA HDD's
2*4 way 3Ware 9500-S's
RAID configuration, TBD - but I'm leaning towards each card being
striped in hardware and then mirrored onto the second card using S/W RAID.
2* Gb Ethernet (channel bonded)

| It's a while since I've used NBD, but its really easy to find ways of
| making it fall over. I would have assumed that IDE would be more reliable
| than a million quids worth of SCSI storage exported out over NBD.
