Seriously, ask your manager what exactly he wants to recover from the
drive. It will probably turn out to be something benign and if the
disk is physically damaged then recovery *will* be expensive.
As to destroying data on drives, a good low level format while
thumping the drive with a mallot generally does the trick
sufficiently.
