And I'm happy to mention that DSL also runs quite happily off disk on an 
ancient Toshiba Tecra 8000.  certainly not as cool or portable as USB-boot 
thingy but breathes life into an otherwise geriatric laptop.

never did manage to get the USB boot working on *any* machine yet.
