I've purchased a hardware modem from PC World (yeah, I know... sorry,
but i had a silly deadline to get stuff working before leaving the
country again) which worked fine under Linux (though was of the external
ilk) - though if you can get a U.S. Robotics (from RS is where I got my
latest batch from) they are good pieces of kit and support stuff like
fax, voice, etc. under Linux too, should you want to do that (I've got
one functioning as a fax g/w hung off an Ubuntu box next to me.)
