  | Folks, I still need help getting [an internal hardware] modem.
  | Any really really good hardware vendors in Ireland [ ... ]

does it have to be an _internal_ modem?

if not, i.e, an external one is find, I can strongly
recommend USRobotics (serial), which is what I use.
works great, never been a problem in either Ireland
or France. my SuSE system detected and configured it
properly (all I did was adjust the volume), so even
the installation was hassle-free. (I believe there
are also USB external modems, which I know nothing
about. I have also been told Zoom external modems
are good, but know nothing about them either.)

unfortunately, I happen to know the shop in Dublin
where I purchased mine several years ago is closed,
so I cannot help there..... ;-\

cheers!
