Karl,

Please, Please, Please, read some online documentation.
Here are some references.

http://www.ifi.uio.no/in228/lecsplit/slide2.html

http://www.justlinux.com/nhf/Programming/Bash_Programming_Cheat_Sheet.html

And a book surprise, surprise:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1565923472/ref=pd_sxp_f/103-0670034-0356617?v=glance&s=books

for elsip maybe you can find someone who would sell you this:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00071M65Y/qid=1121883331/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-0670034-0356617?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

after all it is a little old

Maybe you could type mail foo at bar.com at the command line and if your
system is set up correctly it will invoke mail and send mail to
foo at bar.com, but I doubt it and I guess you would be very frustrated.

Regards,

Paul O'Malley
