No text mode Steph. Just a black screen with a lovely mouse pointer.
I have tried the general frustrated mash of the keys but to no avail.
I'll try something specific like this but I'm not hopeful.

Oh hey during installation right at the beginning I remember a message pups up.
"You are installing a 32bit OS on a 64bit system. Do you want to
continue" followed by "OK"or"Cancel"
I dont expect that to have anything to do with it but then I'm out on
a limb here anyway.
It will probably be that FX5200 card that will save me.. Though that
is no way to live when there is a 6800 around.
We will see.
