Sorry although I didnt mention it in my original posting I had seen that thread go through and this has probably brought the idea to the front of my mind again.

My main questions would be around the how-to's and the what to do's and 
not to do's

I note on Mythical Beasts that they offer shell accounts as well as the 
virtual servers obviously less capacity but at a lower cost.  Would this 
be suitable to manage the data backup part of my plan?  Its clear it 
will do the email bit.  I shoould point out that at the outset my 
storage requirements would not be huge and the Beasts offer asstance 
with migration to the Virtual Server if required.  I also seen they 
offer Fedora as the distro.

Any links to docs on this topic would be greatly appreciated.
