Hi Seán,
You might be better off viewing the RSS feed with a client specifically
designed as an RSS reader. As David points out above, you can use
Firefox's live bookmarks feature as a basic RSS Reader. Thunderbird is
more useful as it is more flexible and has more features for monitoring
RSS feeds.
However, I found Thunderbird to be (currently) lacking in some features
- primarily the ability to import / export OPML [1] which is useful if
you want to try out other RSS readers / aggregators and you've already
spent time "book-marking" the feeds that you're interested in.
So staying within the Mozilla family, I'm using the Sage [2] Firefox
extension as my RSS reader. It's easy-to-use interface uses the sidebar
as its primary interface and the program provides enough functionality
for my current needs.
If you feel like experimenting, other Mozilla-based RSS readers are
listed at
https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/showlist.php?application=firefox&category=News%20Reading
A more extensive list of other readers and aggregators is available at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_news_aggregators#For_Unix
Best wishes,
Anthony
