OO2 powerpoint compatibility is greatly improved apparently. I
remember seeing a blog entry somewhere (or else something internal in
Sun) with screenshots of a ppt opened in SO6, SO7, SO8 and Powerpoint
and you can see 6 gets it very wrong, 7 less wrong and 8 gets it spot
on. (SO8 == OO2 - the usual bits I think).
So give it a try. Should be greatly improved, afaik.
