[ILUG] pppd problems

[ILUG] pppd problems

I have just upgraded one of our servers from Mandrake 9.1 to Mandrake 10.1 and
now pppd doesn't seem to want to work in demand dial made. The options and
chat files are the same (just copied over from the 9.1 disk) and pppd will
dial if I take out the demand and persist lines. In the man pages including
demand implies persist so I also tried it with demand and without persist but
it won't run and stay in the background....it just dies and doesn't dial.

Any ideas on why inlcuding the demand line kills pppd when it works as
expected without the line?

The options file is below:

lock
defaultroute
noipdefault
demand
persist
192.168.200.200:192.168.200.201
ipcp-accept-remote
ipcp-accept-local
holdoff 10
idle 300
