hi!
I'm looking for suggestions here ....
I anticipate reviewing a large manual (300+ pages?!),
sent to me as a PDF. normally, what I do with smaller
documents is print them out, mark them up with a red
pen, and then discuss my markups with the author.
with such a large document, the printout is a problem.
so what I am wondering is if there is some way of
marking up the PDF document itself? what I have done
in the past in vaguely similar situations is convert
the document to ASCII text, add comments with a text
editor, and then send the marked-up ASCII back to the
author. in this case, this may not be a good idea,
both due to the size of the manual, and also because
it contains many(?) diagrams/drawings which would be
lost in the translation to ASCII.
I know PDF has some sort of a comment ability (I see
menu items about it in `acrobat'), but have no idea
how to make such a comment. or if it is possible to
scribble (draw) on a diagram, or make a diagram.
another approach I have used in the past is to markup
the document's source (esp. if it is LaTeX or troff),
but that is definitely not an option this time. ;-\
any ideas? suggestions?
my marking-up would be on Linux (SUSE 9.1), albeit
the author would deal with the marked-up document
either on Windross or an _ancient_ Debian system
(where “ancient‟ means it hasn't been updated in
c.5 years?!). the marked-up document does not have
to be one file, nor ASCII nor PDF, but I suspect
the choices/possible formats are fairly restricted?
cheers!
