You can enter the BIOS, raid controller etc etc. You cannot do that with
serial redirection.

Yeah, KVM IP is excellent if your system wont boot past runlevel 1, or
worse. I would rather live with that than be forced to drive God knows
where to fix an issue in the middle of the night.
