I bought the aldi laptop about 15 months ago... 1500 / got a VAT
refund which brought it down to 1170..
It's not so much a laptop as a portable desktop replacement... p4
3.06 / 512MB // Nvidia

I installed gentoo on it, running 2.6.11 at the moment.... modem /
gfx / lan all worked well. Bought a new 8011g card (came with 11b).
ACPI suspend doesn't work so it requires a shutdown / poweroff rather
than a suspend to ram / disk.

it shows a strange phenomenon ocassionally where is takes about a
minute to get to the grub menu with the disk spinning heavily and as
soon as grub comes up it boots up fine..

Machine did fail about 3 months ago... smoke..burning etc... DHL
picked it up following day and it was back in about a week with a new
motherboard, so no complaints there.

All in all, I used it all this academic year doing a masters and it
performed well... in general I'm happy with it, although if buying one
now I would look at the ubuntu / HP realtionship for laptops that are
fully supported under linux (ACPI etc)...
