Why is customisation "all the more important" for 64-bit architecture?
Ubuntu AMD64 is already optimized for x86-64, and you don't have to
waste eons compiling stuff. Even my (fairly minimal) server install
has over 600 packages installed; compiling each of those from source
isn't something I should be spending my server's time on.
