[ILUG] amaroK and CPU usage

[ILUG] amaroK and CPU usage

I just started using amaroK and first impressions were favourable - I
like the UI, and having installed the appropriate "Multimedia Option
Pack" under SuSE 9.3 it plays MP3 files, which is a damn handy thing
for a media player to do.

However, it is just south of absurd for an MP3 player to take 90% of
CPU on an AMD 64 3200+. Its hunger for CPU is in the FAQ and there is
discussion about using different engines. However, as it is on my SuSE
box there engine option was blank, and the only choice was aKode. I
selected this and it made no difference, so I suspect it may already
have been using that.

Do any of you have experience with tuning amaroK for reduced CPU usage,
specifically on SuSE 9.3?

Niall
