It is very simple. These decisions will impact companies like Sony, who
play both sides of the fence, in their roles as both technology and
entertainment copyright holders, if it does hit their bottom line
adversely it might make for a more interesting future.
My current reading is Lawrence Lessig's 'Free Culture' and it deals with
these kind of subjects. I strongly suggest that you all read it out
there. It makes for an interesting non technical discussion of the
issues around the restrictions that society is allowing to happen at the
moment.
For a tenious link he uses this FS/OSS as a definition for the kind of
beast that Linux is :)
