Maybe you need to recompile the Nvidia driver with better flags?
BTW: Sounds like an Nvidia problem no, not an Xorg problem. Bug
Nvidia - they're the only ones who can diagnose this and, if its
their bug (sounds likely from what you describe above), fix it.
