I use Gentoo and that will let you set up with ga_IE as default language -
also lets you install the aspell_ga and kspell_ie dictionaries

I didn't realise there was any kind of decent offering out there for
gaeilge on linux, though it's something i would love to see and would
use.

I thought there was just a few apps poorly translated and that was it.

Am I wrong ?

I can't get the ftp install of suse to offer anything other than
english(us) for ireland, and if i don't find a better distro soon i
will have to do something about the key mapping so i can easily get
irish characters.

Also, is there any character code available with the irish glyphs ?
The one without the letter h where a 'dot' over the letter was used,
and alternater characters for 'r'. 's' and '&' etc.. [i've seen
various fonts for some os's but that doesn't suit me - need a
supported codepage, UTF has room for some more glyphs perhaps ??]

I have lots of books printed in this manner and i prefer it but it
seems to have dissappeared in the more recently printed materials for
some reason.

Regards

Dara
