The big thing about untrimmed posts is that they're stupid stupid 
stupid. If you are posting and you are referring to a line or two in a 
previous post, quote THOSE lines and those lines only to set the 
context.

Like many others, I read my email in a 3 pane gui. When somebody 
includes 40 lines of irrelevant text from a previous post, I have to 
scroll down in the viewing pane to see what the poster said. I hope 
it's clear to you that this makes the whole list mail reading 
experience for me much more tedious than it should be.
