Okay - let's kill this now:
	1) To my knowledge both Colm and Paul have at least tried Gentoo
and found it lacking (for their uses)
	2) ILUG is defined by it's membership, that means YOU
	3) ILUG as a group use a very disparate set of distros, BUT each
individual is free to choose what suits them
	4) No-one disputes that compiling from source can gain an extra
few percentage points in performance stakes, but IME that's been a
pointless endevour since the Commodore 64 was in vogue.

Hopefully this will start to put things in context. There are places for
Gentoo, but on the whole (Simon and Steph excluded) most agree that
production servers in large organisations are not a suitable place for
any Compiled-from-scratch distro.

Gentoo is great for some people, me (as I said in an earlier post), I've
a job, wife, kid, house, car etc to look after as well as my computer. I
want a linux distro that "Just works" (TM), preferably one that just
works NOW - not in 18 hours time when it's finished compiling something
(and yes - I've tried Gentoo, and found it no better and no worse
overall than most others)
