I have a homegrown one humming in my front room and I simply could not 
haven that off the shelf. It's not so much about money than about 
fulfilling your own specs. my box has a mini-atx board with everyhting 
onboard including SATA-RAID and graphics, 1 GB ECC RAM and 2 80 HB SATA 
disks in RAID 1 all in a slimline case.

not cheaper than commercial, but my spec.
