Apparently I left out the closing ` which should have come after the 7.
Also, some people (They Know Who They Are) will whinge about my use of
X there, and say it shows my age. Well, using X works on old shells AND
new. Not using X works on current bash, but fails on Solaris 8's sh.
I've no idea which camp HP-UX's sh-posix is in. Personally, I'm fussy
about wanting my advice to work nearly anywhere someone might use it.
