I have a really strange problem that I can't figure out, perhaps someone could
suggest what I should look at.
I installed Suse 9.2 as a dual boot OS on a Windows machine.
The graphics card is a NVidia Riva TNT2 and the monitor is a Belinea 106020
19" monitor.
The machine displays perfectly in Windows 2000.
After booting into Suse 9.2 Linux the system come up with the user login
screen for KDE which it displays perfectly.
On logging in and attempting to start KDE Desktop the XWindows fails to start.
I hear a clicking sound from the monitor as it switches through different
preset resolution combinations and then returns me back to the user login
screen again having failed to start the KDE desktop.
I have used SAX2, the Suse XWIndows configuration tool, through the YAST to
check the horizontal and vertical screen refresh rates were set according to
the manufacturers recommended settings. The SAX2 tool had a predefined
setting for the Belinea monitor.
I have reinstalled many of the X components using the YAST tool. I have also
run the YAST system check diagnostic tools several times thinking there might
have been a file corruption.
I have also loaded the proprietary NVidia 3D graphics driver as an attempt to
update the driver. Also without any change in status.
Interestingly the SAX2 tool is a GUI tool and as I mentioned earlier the
system boots up fine in Windows.
I would welcome any suggestions I could try to either further troubleshooting
or to fixing the problem.
