My day job languages are PHP and JavaScript - I think that those
languages (PHP, especially) would be perfect for introducing a user to
programming. In fact, I'm currently working on some code for Mozilla,
which I'm implementing in JavaScript first (as a "prototyping" language)
before rewriting in C.
None of those are Linux-only, though. Even the fact that 'vim' is my
favourite editor doesn't make it Linux-only
