[ILUG] Faster internet connections - is this real?

>From what I read on the Apache website you can set up Apache to automatically 
compress content it sends to clients that understand compressed content using 
mod_deflate. Is mod_deflate used much by ISP's? If it is then I assume the 
only advantage of ONSPEED is that it uses better compression algorithms and 
works with browsers that don't understand compressed content.
