[ILUG] Wireless question

I am considering a small wireless network. Reading the howto's a couple of 
questions came up:

1. There is an emphasis on "line of sight" in one of the how-to's. I am 
planning to run the connection from one end of the house to the other through 
several brick walls - not far but not line of sight. My digital cordless 
phone just about makes it. What are the chances of a wireless network making 
it?

2. Recommendations for a wireless card please.
