Most new devices (nics, hubs/switches, etc) can work with either but
it's worth checking the documentation for your device.

Where the device(s) can work with either, when you change cable type
you may have to hard-reset the devices on either end of the link.

You do not need a crossover cable for PC to modem on iol. I have just used a
standard cable to send this email to you.

But I have had problems using the "appropriate cable supplied" .but when I
us a new cable every thing works ok. This has happened 3 times with iol and
2 with eircom .I think they get stuff returned and send it back out.

Hope I have being of some help.

hippy

PS: Irish Broadband you do need a crossover cable from box to pc
