does he want to access the wireless of wired network?

Surely DHCP is all he needs?
the only other issue may be proxies for some apps, 
the proxy config url is:
http://proxy.ucd.ie/proxy.pac

or this can be hardcoded as 
proxy.ucd.ie:8484 <http://proxy.ucd.ie:8484>

the laptop needs to be registered for wired access. but dunno about 
wireless, they told me i didn't need to register mine for it but i haven't 
tested this yet.

the only prob may be with novel. but if you say you only want access to the 
net and not your novell netwrok drive this shoudln't be a prob.
