I don't have a lot of detail, but I remember trying this same thing
before with 2.6.12 and running into compile problems. AFAICR I found
some postings on the kernel mailing list about potential
incompatibilities between certain versions of this driver and certain
versions of the kernel(sorry I can't remember more). Anyway I didn't
need it that badly so decided to leave well enough alone. A quick
search of the LKML should help.
