ew.  definitely a future solution to the problem - i'll test it when i
get home tonight and i'm sure it will work.

but still, ew.  what a crappy way of doing things.

systems that don't use x are doomed to bolt crappier solutions onto
their gui in order to achieve the same functionality as x.
