Declan here. Thanks for your interest.

May I try to help? I'm trying to provide a specific
backup service for data generated on an industial box. These are
large files and directories of data files, for the most part
being linux compatable naming. None of this sort of thing

c:\Dec's Data\<a dozen more directories>Dec's Extremely Long
Filename.exe

because all the programs were designed to run under the 8:3 file
naming system. Given the confines of the workshop, and the
cantankerous and <expletive deleted> awkward nature of the
industrial pc, a usb disk leaped out as the laziest way to
handle things, if such an isa card existed. There's no room for a
second hard drive, or cdrom.

I did spend some months(!) reverse engineering and so forth and
eventually managed to get an isa nic ino the industrial box
without freaking it. Very much second choice is to try
networking them.

> The host PC is running what?

My own PC is dual boot 'doze, & linux. The Industrial box is on
Win98SE. These two could talk. Serial is not a good idea - trust me.

> The ISA card is running win98?
I'm looking for a USB card with an isa bus, more in hope than
expectation.

> How do they communicate at the moment?
They don't, and data currently is not backed up. I did clone the
hard drive, but it involves too much hardware messing to repeat.

> Is there a USB interface on the ISA card?
> Are there any other external interfaces on the ISA card?

/Bangs head on Wall. Repeats often.
I'm trying to buy a usb card for an ISA (not pci) bus, if anyone
has one. The first line of this email was my original question.

> I'm confused.

I've no answer to that, I'm afraid :-/. My head hurts too :-).
