did it similar to how Caolan described it.

only problems I had were a few broken dependencies and a broken ALSA (which I 
fixed by switching to OSS (nyeh)).

I haven't really noticed any differences, but then I tend to patch my system 
with upgrades every few weeks anyway. Maybe I would notice the difference if 
it had been a vanilla FC4 beforehand.
