[ILUG] Whatever happened to real computer scientists?

[ILUG] Whatever happened to real computer scientists?

Just to add my two cent, I'm studying electronic engineering myself at
the moment and there is way more theory involved than actual practical
work so most students probably don't even own a soldering iron or a
multimeter. Personally I love to take things apart and repair them but
nowadays with surface mount components all the pieces look the same so
you need a component analyser which costs well over 100 euro (I work
part time in Maplin so I know) so there is no hope of a student having
one of those. Also, with labs reports due one week and written
assignments the next as well as working part time I personally don't
have time to tinker about with broken stuff anymore. And that's not
including going out drinking which face it as a student is a
priority...
