[ILUG] echo $"Why does RedHat do this"?" in init scripts

[ILUG] echo $"Why does RedHat do this"?" in init scripts

Niall O Broin niall at linux.ie

The subject nearly says it all - why do RedHat init scripts use

echo $"Here is a message for stdout"

instead of simply

echo "Here is a message for stdout"

I am quite prepared for the answer to be "Red Hat magic" just like
"action" - if you have ever tried to do I/O from an init script,
you'll know what I'm talking about.
