I rather suspect that you'll find similar pricing applies to e.g. HP
colour lasers. In general, this kind of logic applies a lot in the
computing field - lower running costs are only available for higher
initial costs. When I bought my Dell I sprung for 3 years warranty, as
at the time the printer was on sale at Dell. In hindsight, this was
remarkably dim. I should have just taken the standard one year
warranty, and then whenever the printer died, bought a new one and
regarded it as a set of spare consumables supplied with free housing
:-)
This kind of information about real life running costs is NOT something
you see very often in glowing reviews in the computer trade comics - I
wonder why?
