[ILUG] Slightly OT. The which ISP Question!

Hi,
Hope this question is not banned or something..

Ok I'm moving house..
Still city center. But I think I'll drop Irish Broadband. When it works it
is delightful. But when it is not working it is painful. Recently, for me at
least, it is "not working" a lot. I liked the idea of IBB partly because of
the 2MG each way thing. (Had the idea that I would set up a simple nix* web
server for experimenting with. Edubunto or something)

A friend suggested Esat BT. Says it is blisteringly fast. It is ADSL so
upload bandwidth is very much smaller. Also he has had problems with their
billing system in the past.

My new area (Phibsborough exchange) is not ready for Smart "yet".. Perhaps 6
months.. Well that means it will be at least that and certainly it will be a
while longer than I'm prepared to wait.

Magnet have a package for non ADSL2 ready areas but it is not particularly
special from what I can see. However assuming the area becomes ready soonish
it might be an option.

What are peoples current comments on what is out there and what might be
happening soon?

Thanks

Fred.
