Humm. All very enlightening.
So as it stands.
-*BT* are cool.. stable and all.. have to pay line rental from Eircom and
not DSL but that is the way of all phone line based services (perhaps
excluding smart). Some people have billing issues too.
-*Smart* would be good if you can get it. Pricing aside... People have said
the phone call rates are steep.. (I'm not looking for a phone though as I'll
use VOIP)
-*Bluface* are something everyone are interested in but they dont provide an
ISP package. Also there are others out there that should prove interesting
now and in the future. "Watch that space"
-*IBB *are OK when they work and crap when they dont. No Eircom line rental
and the up is the same as the down.
-*Netsource* Might be interesting. contention ration is off putting (though
you might never experience the problem) and Eircom line rental on top is
prohibitive.
*Origin Plus* at 45 a month or 135 a quater
*Speed: 3072 down / 384K up*
Contention: 24:1
*----Magnet.. anyone*? is the *Step Up* package OK? are they upgrading
exchanges to ADSL2 on a regular basis or is it like the Smart problem with
Eircom blocking them. Also there is a thing where you might have to take on
at least 2 or three of the packages they have. TV, BB and phone
Anything else to add to the possibilities?
I'm not too worried about capping as long as it is reasonable and I would
not mind paying by the bit or bite or even the byte if it was reasonable.
DSL is a preferred service.. VOIP and video conferencing would like it very
much amongst other UP direction dependent situations.
