Recently I've noticed that the email address that I use for this list
subscription has started to get spam for the first time. This struck me as
strange, since I never use it to signup for services and have never put up
the address on the web, without some kind of nospam suffix/prefix. I know
that this isn't fool proof, but it seems to work.
So, I decided to search google for my email address. The only place it appears
in the clear is in my VCard on linux.ie. I had a quick look at a few others,
and despite the anti-spam measures on the who's who page, the vcards are
unprotected. It seems to me that this is probably the source for whoever
harvested my email address.
Has this happened to anyone else? Can we perhaps add some anti-harvester
measure to the vcards? (I know its too late for my address, but surely anyone
who changes address or signs up ought to be given some protection).
Thanks,
Joe
