[ILUG] zsh and unicode...

[ILUG] zsh and unicode...

My laptop has a british keyboard. Which is fine. But $ is next to £
and i frequently use the $ for shell vars and bang escapes in a zsh
command line.

When I accidentally type £, zsh gets confused. It sees two bytes but
only shows the £. I assume this is a unicode thing. When deleting, zsh
only deletes one of the two bytes. I have to press backspsace twice to
delete a £:

    : ok ; : Sat 3 20:25 ; cd ~/Desktop
    : kevin at ogunquit on pts/1 ; echo £ | od -t x1
    0000000 c2 a3 0a
    0000003
    : ok ; : Sat 3 20:25 ; cd ~/Desktop
    : kevin at ogunquit on pts/1 ; echo | od -t x1
    0000000 c2 0a
    0000002

The zsh manpages are silent for the mostpart on unicode. How can I get
zsh to be a bit smarter about unicode chars?
