Thanks Rick,

Its not looking good for the hdd. Way too many I/O errors, impossible to  
mount and because its a laptop, not easily removed to another box for  
dd'ing.

The file I need to recover has a phone number of a girl who knocked me off  
my bike in October (and she admitted liability). So this little file is  
worth more than I paid for the laptop!

I think I'll sue the RIAA on this one, after all, it was cyprus hill that  
killed my laptop. One minute I am happy ripping a CD, then next... ugg.
