As widely documented, you mess up with the package repositories only
if you know what you are doing. This is one of the reasons they
created multiverse and universe so you can add packages that you
require.
If you back up your station, you should be able to get the digests
from /var/cache/apt/*.bin
If you don't, i'd suggest either the wiki or the Ubuntu forums ...
