The lust for the bleeding edge can be caused by two pieces of thinking.
1) a tester of gcc or systems therefore going to work on the next level
2) if you come to the land of GNU/Linux from a popular desktop you may
carry an attitude of the latest greatest thing is what you must run on
your machine.
3) something else.

There is a rather useful wiki page on the ubuntu site that tries to
explain to people why the latest version of a piece of software is not
in their release of the distro https://wiki.ubuntu.com/TimeBasedReleases.
