I like gallery2 myself. I tested it on a gentoo desktop running apache
2.0.x, php 4.x and mysql 4.0.x, then deployed it onto a debian server
with the same, then upgraded that to mysql 4.1.x, then backed it up
but also ran it just to test on my Ubuntu notebook with php 5.x and
finally moved it from the Debian host to a shared hosting provider
running php 4 again, but mysql 5.x. (http://gallery.danindublin.com/).
So pretty much any LAMP combination should be fine. :-) As mentioned
it does need Safe Mode off though. Also the exact features depend
somewhat on the theme you choose and modules installed/enabled.
