Hi there sorry I didn't reply to this as I got sidetracked for the
week and only had a chance to look at it today.  Anyway its solved
now.  Stupid me didn't see the ftp entry in the /etc/ftpusers file. 
Thats what I get for looking at things at 04:00 in the morning after a
feed of beer :)
