To try to answer your question:
Gentoo uses /etc/conf.d/net to configure interfaces yours should probably be
something like (straight out of Gentoo guide):
config_eth0=( "192.168.0.7 netmask 255.255.255.0" )
routes_eth0=( "default gw 192.168.0.1" )
192.168.0.7 is the address of your network card
192.168.0.1 is where you are going to send packets to get out into the wide
world - probably the ip address of your router.
You should have done:
ln -s net.lo net.eth0 in /etc/init.d
so when you reboot eth0 will be configured automatically.
If you reboot your machine and rerun
route -n
hopefully your routing table will only have one gateway.
