[ILUG] Need PHP function to convert from Irish fada characters to plain ascii equivs

It's OK. The following function does do the trick. My problem was with
needing to run the words though utfdecode() first.

function accents($text) {

   $search  = array ('á', 'é', 'í', 'ó', 'ú', 'Á', 'É', 'Í', 'Ó', 'Ú');
   $replace = array ('a', 'e', 'i', 'o', 'u', 'A', 'E', 'I', 'O', 'U');
   $newtext    = str_replace($search, $replace, $text);
   return $newtext;
}
